My pillow cover arrived today! A lovely piece I ordered from waste-cabin’s Society 6 store!

I bought the 16x16 cover. My only complaints are that the zipper is really small so it was hard to get the pillow into it (but my pillow is 17x17 so that didn’t help) and it isn’t very soft. Still, it’s lovely and I’m going to enjoy cuddling with my two favourite boys c:

I had this sketched out for the longest while and after a very belated and derp worthy herp on my part I found a very sweet message in my tumblr inbox for a friend.  So!  I fixed it up and made it pretty and here it is for Kukki and Akai.

Sorry for all of the Adventure Time style stuff lately, it’s just really fun to draw and I’m happy with the contrast for these two.  The background kind of sprang up from that colour in the top right hand corner so…I think Teddy’s doing the Howl’s Moving Castle run to help Billy fly with him better.  Or something.

YA is out and people are cranky again

I feel like I should stop going to the Young Avengers tag after a new issue comes out. Criticism is all fine and good but the stupid shit that people complain about just makes me want to flip the entire internet on its head.

I’m loving the new series. It’s not the same but it doesn’t have to be. I’m just happy it’s good. And it is good; it took a bit for me to get on board but I’m so happy that it exists. I’m so happy for the attention it’s getting and that it’s in the hands of people who not only do great work but pay attention to the fanbase in a big way. We have a voice, people, and they’re listening! But a lot of us are using it to say that characters are “too gay” because Billy brushes his hair now and Teddy makes an offhand sassy comment about cute boys. I just.

????

That’s basically my reaction to the tag when I’m not flipping things. And I’m sorry to the people who are genuinely offended by their portrayal but… idk it kind of feels like you’re looking for something that isn’t there.

So looking forward to Kate’s re-intro. Maybe when we get more of the original team together we’ll finally have something else to gripe over.

I’m sorry, did we all miss those, what, four months of clinical depression? You know, when he sat on the windowsill, cutting off the world at large, friends, family, even the love of his life? 

And then he gets better.

And you know what happened in YA #1?

It’s called a trigger reaction. One born from the death of two close friends, a war going on, a friend set on the path to become one of the world’s greatest villains, and Billy blames himself for it in full. Someone brought that shit up with him again, and lord help him, he’s going to make the world burn for it, because that’s what you do when you’re triggered. You don’t care what you say, you don’t care who you say it to. You’re in pain, and fuck everything, they’re all going to know it. YOLO.

You know what the main difference is? The difference is that Gillen, unlike Heinberg, is a very character-oriented writer. If Heinberg killed Teddy’s mom and we barely got two panels of it (because even bottling things up can be given attention), Gillen’s the writer who on the first issue going to shove down our throats every single last “thing” between Billy and Teddy that EVERYONE in the first run, YA title writers or otherwise, refrained from getting anywhere near. Because if Teddy is with tears in his eyes and is choking on the words, says “the only mom I ever had was burned alive in front of me”, that is arguably not the same Teddy, either. But it is - he just says what he never did but should’ve.

And Billy? Billy’s saying what makes sense he’d say after ACC. This IS our Billy. It’s the Billy who’s been through twice as much shit as most in CW (most. not all). This is the Billy whose boyfriend was why the Skrulls attacked like, twice. This is the Billy who lost control of his powers, who’s scared shitless of himself, who had Cap show up in his living room, and made his parents scared of Billy, too. Then cue friends dying and self-blame. 

The difference here is that we’re not given a pseudo-happy ending. We’re not having everything the two have been through glazed over for the sake of the plot because the narrative is plot-oriented. We’re digging into everything that’s dirty, and rotten, and broken with those two and yes, if it means Billy being a self-centered prick because he’s triggered, then so be it this is what we’re going to get because that’s what Gillen does. He goes places other writers won’t, he digs up everything painful about a character’s backstory, and unlike what we had so far? He uses it.

This IS our Billy. In his time of need, in a time of transition, where he’s probably going to rediscover himself as a hero. Sort of this new origin story for him. He’ll hopefully recover within… five issues? At most? But until then we’re left with this fragile, broken thing.

That IS our Billy. And he shouldn’t apologize for being this flawed human being because that’s what he is.

Do I miss the fine-legged ball of sass? Yes. Of course I do. I wait for his return about as much as Teddy does. But it’s not Gillen’s fault. This was set-up as early on as ACC. It’s just that like most things character-oriented in the previous narrative - we didn’t see any of it.

Nintendo 3DS: The Legend of Zelda Limited Edition - People around tumblr have always been sulking about not having this limited edition Zelda 3DS. I won this $100 prepaid visa gift card at an orchestra banquet last year and I hadn’t used it, apparently. So, I decided to search for the 3DS on eBay and I was actually surprised to find one under the budget! Gave the card to my mother and she took care of the rest. It’s in pretty great condition, barely used, all the functions are fine, the screen is as sharp as a tack. However, this was just for the hand-held device, not Ocarina of Time 3DS. I can’t provide for everything! Also, it didn’t come in the original packaging, so I’ll send it bubble wrapped and safe inside a small box. Charger and stand included.
